Free disk recovery tool

A friend at work had a problem because his external hard disk was not being recognised by his computer. He tried all the usual big name recovery programs with no success. Then he came acrossTestDisk a free open source disk recovery tool and it did the trick.

"TestDisk is a powerful data recovery utility! It was primarily designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally erasing your Partition Table)."

It rocks! My friend is delighted!

Try it if you have problems with a hard disk not booting. It is a bit 'techy' to use, but but maybe a techy friend can help you out if you feel daunted.

This is a handy free tool to compare prices for PPC on a few of these services. It only covers Miva, GoClick, Brainfox, Enhance, Epilot and Kanoodle at this time. However, you can set the number of position (I tried 10 and it worked fine) you want to compare.

What is trackback?

Trackback is a mechanism for communication between blogs. if a blogger is writing a new entry which comments on, orrefers to an entry on another blog, then the commenting blogger can notify the other blog about this. This is known as a 'trackback ping'. The log receiving blog will typically display a list of links to all the commenting entries. You can often see these below the original entry.

Trackback allows a conversations spanning several blogs to be presented in a format which makes it easy to follow.

However, in order for this to work both blogging tools need to support the TrackBack protocol. Some bloggers switch off Trackback as it has created problems with 'trackback spam', which is a false trackback only intended to try and advertise something. Recent version of blogging software have got better at avoiding trackback spam, but the whole issue is still problematic.

Great way to get top internet marketing tips - free

Here is a really good way to get free internet marketing tips from the best experts around - all for free.: You just sign up for a free course or the newsletter from the top internet marketing experts and see what they do - then copy them...

Search on Google for:
internet marketing
web marketing

The ones who list first in the results are most likely to be amongst the best as they are appearing first for these highly competitive keywords - so they must know what they are doing, right?

Pick, say, the first three sites listed and go and join their newsletter / free course and watch what they do.

Don't just go along with what they say they do, notice what they actually do....

Notice where on the home page they have their email signup, notice what wording they use.
Notice what they say on their welcoming email.
Notice how soon they send follow ups and how often.

Can you see how they make their money?
Do they offer a free course and include affiliate links to products or links to products or services they sell? Do they use online video to sell their products and services?

Once you see a few of things you will get a flavour or the best approaches for selling via the web. You can then start to adapt their wording and their techniques to your needs.

If you want to be the best then learn from the best.

Hey, you might even want to sign up and pay them for something. But, by that time you'll have a much better idea about what is worth paying for.

How to start blogging

The simplest way to get started in blogging is to go to a major site like blogger or typepad and take it from there. Both sites are free.

Even if you are a webmaster and think you might want to install blogging software on your website these are still good places to start as they will help you get experience of what is involved with the minimum fuss and bother. Also even if you do later set up your own blog software you can use your blog on the external site to point back to the blog you are hosting yourself.

What is RSS (Really Simple Syndication)?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is a way of exchanging information between web sites, and between web sites and individuals in a very dynamic way.

RSS is used by web sites to provide lists or 'feeds', as they are called, of regularly changing information.

For example, a web site my produce an RSS list of the top ten selling books which is updated daily. Any other web site could offer the same information to their sites vistors very easily using the RSS protocol. Every time the list of top selling ebooks is changed the visitors to any site offering the feed would see the new book list without the hosting webmaster having to edit or change it.

Individuals could use the feed in their 'feed reader' or 'aggregator' to see the latest book list at any time without having to visit the site.

Blogs also use RSS feeds to publish their content. This gives other sites an easy way to present the blogs information.

It is to a web sites advantage to have fresh and interesting content. When this can be acheived with little or no work on behalf of the webmaster it is especially appealing, so RSS has proven very successful.

What is a blog?

"Blog" is an abbreviation of the term "weblog". A blog is a system which allows non-technical people to easily and quickly add information to web pages.

Blogs allow just about anyone to put what they want to on the web, this is what makes them so interesting and so powerful. It is also why the have taken off in such a big way.

Many blogs focus on a particular topic; personal anecdotes, sports, technology, relationships, politics, state of the world etc...

The topics in any particular blogs can be very narrow and specific or very wide ranging. Personal blogs written like an online diary are very common.

A blog is usually updated frequently

A blog is just about anything the blogs creator wants it to be.
